Thoughts of the Day

After hearing a few of the proposals from my classmates, my idea is looking better and better. At first I wasn't really wanting to do mine but after putting all the time and effort towards it, it is hard to dismiss it. Making the system requirements kinda made it more of a reality. I was also worried a little bit about being a team lead for a big project like this, but now that a lot of the framework as been thought about, I don't think it would be too bad. We will see if it gets picked!

One of the things that we talked about in class was about the IBM challenge to create a computer to play Jeopardy and go against the top Jeopardy minds. It was pretty interesting. Watson is the computer's name. They basically downloaded all the novels, encyclopedias, movies, and papers that they could get a hold of and Watson tries to analyze it and come up with the answer. It was amazing how fast it could analyze the language from the jeopardy question and come up with an answer from its massive database. Crazy stuff. Sure it cost IBM billions of dollars to create and maintain but it is pretty neat what computers are doing now a days. In the past there was a large amount of movies and or speculation of the future of computing and almost all of them dealt with voice recognition and basically talking to a computer like a normal human being and having the computer understand you. So far I think technology has fallen short of those expectations, but it finally seems like it is becoming a reality. We shall see what the future has in store for us!
